Islamabad (AsiaNews / Agencies) – The death toll from a suicide attack this morning on a police station in Lakki Marwat in North West Pakistan is 14 dead and 40 injured. At least 25 policemen are still trapped under the rubble of the building. The victims, mostly policemen, include four young women.

At present no group has claimed responsibility for the attack, which coincided with celebrations over the victory of Pakistan in the Indo-Pakistan War of 1965. Immediately after the explosion, police cordoned off the area and launched a search operation in areas near the site, to flush out any attackers.

This is the third violent attack in Pakistan since the beginning of September. On 1 September, a threefold attack struck the Shiite community in Lahore during a religious festival, killing 37 people. On September 3 in Quetta, in Baluchistan, again during a Shia demonstration, a suicide bomber blew himself up among the crowd, killing 70 people.
