Seoul – Military officers from North Korea and the US-led UN Command met on Friday for a third round of talks about the deadly sinking of the ROKS Cheonan that killed 46 South Korean sailors. An international team of investigators concluded that a North Korean torpedo sank the warship. North Korea has rejected that claim, accusing South Korea and the United States of trying to raise the tensions in the area.

UN Command spokesman Kim Yong-kyu said the two sides met at the border village of Panmunjom inside the Demilitarised Zone (DMZ) dividing the two Koreas, which US Secretary of State Hillary Clinton visited last week. He gave no further details about the discussions.

To solve the issue, the UN Command has proposed a joint task force to discuss violations of the 1953 armistice that ended the Korean War.

A few weeks ago, the United Nations Security Council issued a Presidential Statement condemning the attack but without indentifying North Korea as the attacker.
