A senior official in President Hamid Karzai's government said the Hezb-i-Islami group had sent a delegation headed by former Prime Minister Qutbuddin Helal.
He's a deputy to the group's leader, Gulbuddin Hekmatyar.
Hezb-i-Islami has fought NATO and Afghan government forces in the east and in pockets in the north of the country.
Earlier this month, Kabul said Hezb-i-Islami fighters in a northern district had agreed to back the authorities after clashing with Taliban fighters over control of villages there.
