German technology conglomerate Siemens has said it will not accept any more orders from Iran.

The announcement followed comments earlier on January 26 from German Chancellor Angela Merkel, who warned that Tehran should reach a compromise with the international community over its controversial nuclear program if it wants to avoid sanctions.

Western countries suspect Iran of trying to develop nuclear weapons, a charge Tehran denies.

Siemens generates huge sales from Iran, but the company faced a consumer boycott in June over allegations that Siemens provided the Islamic Republic with technology capable of monitoring phone calls and e-mails.
