Former Czech President Vaclav Havel has demonstrated outside China's embassy in Prague to protest the conviction of leading Chinese dissident Liu Xiaobo.

Havel, along with two fellow communist-era dissidents -- actor Pavel Landovsky and Bishop Vaclav Maly -- went to the embassy to hand over a letter to protest a Beijing court's decision last month to sentence Liu to 11 years in jail for "inciting subversion of state power."

Speaking to reporters outside the embassy, Havel said they were calling on Chinese authorities to stop persecuting human rights activists.
