Article Tools

Cardinal Tarcisio Bertone denied reports that Pope John Paul II will be beatified in April of 2010. According to Vatican Radio, the cardinal said on November 5 “no, the news on the beatification in the spring is not based on any concrete decision” and explained that the cause for the beatification of the first Polish pope must still go through various steps.

According to Vatican Radio, the cardinal’s words were previously affirmed by opinions expressed by members of the Congregation for the Causes of Sainthood that it would be difficult to conclude the beatification process before the April 2010 anniversary of the death of John Paul II.

Rev. Federico Lombardi, papal spokesman, has also denied a report made by Italian daily La Reppublica that Catholics can expect the beatification of the beloved former Karol Wojtyla can be expected next year.
