On October 20, 1968, the former Jacqueline Bouvier Kennedy was married to Greek shipping impresario Aristotle Onassis. On this date in 1853 was married Caroline Lavinia Scott to the future U.S. President Benjamin Harrison.

In 1873, handbills were distributed in New York announcing the opening of Phineas T. Barnum's Hippodrome and "The Greatest Show on Earth."

Today is the feast of St. Andrew of Crete, who was murdered by an iconoclast in 766 A.D. In 363, St. Artemius was beheaded for the Christian faith at Antioch during the persecution under the rule of Emperor Julian, the apostate. He is known among Maronite Christians as Challita.
